About Pu-erh

The Old and the New

The Old and the New

“Out with the old, in with the new,” as the expression goes. Many people seem to believe that newer always means better, and the world should be constantly changing itself. Others believe the opposite, and prefer to hold on tightly to the ways of the past, valuing that which is old and established over what’s new.

At Denong Tea, we value the old and the new equally, and believe that the best things exist in an intersection of the traditional and the modern. When discussing and enjoying Pu-erh tea, it is essential to value and understand the tradition involved. The traditional methods of brewing tea are still the best methods for yielding the ideal cup of tea, and the current methods of preparing Pu-erh tea leaves have been developed and perfected over hundreds of years.

At the same time, however, innovation is not to be ignored. Though it’s now several decades old, the process of making Ripe Pu-erh tea was once brand new, and now it is simply an accepted part of the Pu-erh tea world. In addition, today’s busy culture calls for a speedier tea-brewing solution that can be used along with the traditional brewing methods. Innovations like our Glass Tumbler allow people more opportunities to brew delicious tea wherever they are.

As if with everything, the key here is balance. Traditions must be honored, but innovations must also be encouraged. Pu-erh tea is part of a complex culture, and it requires both the old and the new working in harmony in order for it to thrive.
